Ongar Town welcolmed White Ensign to the Lane this week, again with a number of players not available. Town had a squad of 12 players available for this game with Paul Hughes, back after some weeks out through suspension, starting the game as the only sub
The game started with Ensign the brighter of the two sides, and they duly took the lead after 5 mins following a mix up in the Town defence which allowed the Ensign forward to slide the ball past the stranded Town keeper, 0-1. Two minutes later some more sloppy play from Town allowed the Ensign wide man to cross the ball into their forward who despatched his chance into the bottom left hand corner, 0 -2. With Only 8 mins on the clock Town found themselves 2 goals down. To Towns credit they didn't let their heads drop and started to play some great attacking footbball. After 30 mins Town had missed two clear one on ones and should of been level. Town were now the stronger of the two sides and played some neat attractive football, they were rewarded on 35 mins when Chris Headon danced round 3 Ensign defenders with some fantastic close control and dinked the ball over their advancing keeper, 1-2 and the score at half time..
The Town team talk at half time was much of the same please. Town started the second half much brighter and again missed several good chances. Paul Hughes replaced Rob Flight in the middle of mid-field and Town pushed on in hope of an equaliser. Unfortunately Town were unable to convert in the second period and the game finshed with the 3 points going to Ensign.1-2. It seems that mistakes cost Town again and they must learn to cut these mistakes out if they are going to climb up the table.
Todays man of the match goes to young Matt Macedo who gave a solid mature performance at left back.
